Parawood is Eco-friendly:
Our Saddle stools are manufactured with Parawood (aka Rubberwood), the most 'environmentally friendly' wood used in today's furniture industry. It is strong, flexible, resistant to fungus, bacteria and mold. It's compatible with most industrial adhesives, easy to work with and has a beautiful grain suitable for quality furniture. Parawood is prized for its dense grain, attractive color, minimal shrinkage and acceptance to different finishes.
Parawood makes use of trees that exude a latex sap which is harvested each year. This rubber tree is the world's primary source of natural rubber. The trees are then cut down at the end of their latex producing cycle. Utilizing this wood is therefore eco-friendly in the sense that we are now using what was going to waste and burned as a by-product.
Milk Paints are Enviromentally Safe:
Our Saddle Stools are finished in "General Finishes Milk Paints". These new finishes are hand-rubbed to give the look of antiquity in saddle stools.
Milk paint recipes include casein, lime, clays and earth pigments. They are then coated with a finish coat of water based lacquer. All products used in finishing are organic raw materials. They are water based products and environmentally safe and non-toxic. We pride ourselves on changing to the latest technology in finishes. Unlike other types of paint that form a skin on the surface of the wood, milk paint has a low viscosity and soaks into raw wood. The finish becomes increasingly durable with age.
